Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Taurus

On Friday, November 19 there will be a Full Moon Lunar Eclipse at 27-Taurus, and it could be a bit of a wild ride….so buckle up! This is the first eclipse in the Taurus-Scorpio polarity, a storyline that will unfold through October 2023. If you have planets at 27-degrees of the fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius), you may feel this eclipse stronger than others. This is a really interesting eclipse with a lot of unique qualities, however, in this blog post I am going to focus on the role Venus will play in the upcoming dynamic.

The Role of Venus

As the ruler of Taurus, Venus is the planet overseeing this eclipse. Therefore, the planet of beauty, connection and pleasure, plays a significant role in the quality of energy available during this time. Venus teaches you a lot about what you really want and whether you feel worthy enough, not only to go after it, but also to receive it. Perhaps, even to receive it without having to do anything to earn it…which is quite a revolutionary thought in today’s world. The idea that our worth does not depend on productivity or results is definitely an idea that will be under review in the coming weeks as the importance of rest and renewal continues to grow its voice in the value system of our culture.

Venus in Capricorn- For the Love of…..

Venus in Capricorn

In modern astrology, Venus is often associated with relationships and finances, two areas of life that often bring a plethora of lessons to be learned around self-worth and value. In Capricorn, we experience a serious, more practical Venus that comes with a sense of ambition and accomplishment in the material world…so much so that desires oftentimes yield to deadlines. Or they become one and the same.

The gifts for manifestation in this combination run very high, after all, Capricorn is a Saturn-ruled sign known for hard work, reliability, and discipline, all of which are qualities that lead to success in our modern society. The question really lies in how your define success for yourself, outside of societal ideals.

Because Venus will retrograde through Capricorn in December and January, my sense is that this eclipse is setting the stage for bigger changes up ahead. There may be disruptions in the Capricorn area of your chart, and this eclipse could provide the opening act. It will be helpful for you to know the Capricorn and Taurus/Scorpio areas of your chart. Venus at 12-Capricorn trine Uranus at 12-Taurus

At the time of the upcoming eclipse, Venus is receiving a trine aspect from the planet Uranus, bringer of revolutionary change, upheavals, and liberation. This Full Moon Eclipse in Taurus speaks in many ways to the suppression and emancipation of the wild feminine within all of us. The perpetual “good girl” archetype that Venus often embodies is being stimulated in new (perhaps shocking) ways. Her charming beatitudes give way to a voice of awakening. A surprising roar of authenticity sourced from deep within the collective feminine consciousness may erupt into the world.

As Venus prepares to embark on her retrograde journey down into the Underworld, she knows she will have to shed her cloak of niceties and shackles of conformity in order to reclaim her power as a newborn warrior. This eclipse, and Venus’ role in it, are a tilling of the soil…turning over the hard, dry ground to find fresh moist Earth for the planting of new seeds…all of which is a part of her preparation for the upcoming retrograde cycle.

otherwise you never would have moved.”

Venus is Also Out-Of- Bounds Adding to Her Desire to Break Free…

Not only is Venus receiving a flowing trine aspect from Uranus as this eclipse unfolds but Venus is also Out of Bounds. An OOB planet classically expresses itself as an inability to stay within the normal parameters of mainstream society. People who are born with a planet OOB in their birth chart are often pioneers or trendsetters who refuse to do things the way they’ve always been done. They push the limits of what we commonly accept in society. Their motto might be something like “the most dangerous phrase in society is ‘we’ve always done it this way.’”

Like most things in astrology, the OOB qualities express themselves within circumstances, or an individual, whether aware of these traits or not. I would say they have even more power if you are consciously working with them and using them for good. To learn more about OOB planets, read my blog “Out of Bounds Planets” from November 2019.

How is this impacting the upcoming eclipse?

With Venus having an OOB signature in addition to the trine energy from Uranus, there is a real potential the Venus areas of your life- relationships, and financial matters- could experience a complete overhaul in the coming weeks. Relationships or financial situations that you’ve outgrown, or that feel unsustainable in some way, might break down to create space for innovations and upgrades. There could be a disruption to the status quo that leads to progress in the future, and while you may not be able to see the result now, your power does not lie in controlling outcomes. It flows from your endless capacity to make choices.

Here are a few journaling questions and self-care practices that you can lean into over the coming days for support and contemplation.

Journaling Questions:

  • What current innovations, disruptions, or breakthroughs are coming to the forefront of your consciousness that may have been seeded in May 2018/March 2019? Review your progress since that time…what major growth has happened for you?
  • Have you ever reached your goals and been unhappy? What did you learn from the experience?
  • How do you define success? When do you know you’ve achieved it?
  • In what ways does your time management reflect your value system?
  • How does the joy of pleasure work together with the burden of responsibility? Or do they?
  • Where do you feel limited in your life?
  • How are you breaking the mold of expectations in order to become more authentically yourself?
  • What brings you true joy and satisfaction?

Self Care Activities to Help Manage the Eclipse Energies:

  • A salt bath or a long shower to invite relaxation and purification
  • Using a lovely oil or lotion on the skin to increase your sense of pleasure and grounding through the senses- touch and smell
  • Grounding through taking a walk out in nature, perhaps with bare feet on the Earth if the weather allows
  • Journaling and quiet reflection
  • Yoga nidra
  • Embodiment practices perhaps with incense and music that you find soothing
